I am so sorry to hear about your experience with the 2013 Verano. It sounds like you have encountered a serious issue with the design that has resulted in a significant financial burden. Unfortunately, the dealership was likely correct in advising against disabling the modules as this could create more problems for you. In the future, it may be worth looking into aftermarket solutions or researching other ways to protect your car from the elements to avoid such a costly repair.

Hi, Frank here, from the great white north. Also have a 2013 Verano. My blind spot indicators, which I think are the same thing that you're all talking about started going on the fritz 2 years ago. I drove for two years like this (ignoring the service indicator) because they told me how much it would cost. This week it all came to a head, service indicators coming on, heater and heated seats going on and off, alarm going off when I opened the door, radio and GPS going on and off. Took it to the dealership. Told me the two modules at $640.00 each need to be replaced. Asked if they can just be disabled somehow and they said no, will cause more problems if they try. If you don't know what you're doing, car may turn off on you. Turns out both modules were corroded. That, plus replacing the harness at $150.00 plus diagnosis at $150.00 plus labor plus tax, and I'm now $2260.00 C$ lighter. Sounds like a design issue. These things should not be exposed to the elements. I don't particularly want to donate $2260.00 to GM every year.

Thanks man! Went over yesterday, took a look, system must use a digital data stream, connectors look like a RJ45 computer network connector, not watertight. Explains the need to replace interconnecting harness. Left module is inside trunk, under a cover next to rear use block. Pulled back trunk liner on right, could not locate, could be under trunk floor and outside in the elements.

Called my dealer parts guy, sez fuse F25 powers system, going over after rain stops, pull that fuse, see if car runs OK, probably set a dash light& code.

I've had experience with GM customer service, can be difficult. But will try.

Every failure was a corroded module. First 2 failures were covered by warranty but the last failure was after the warranty was over. I contacted GM Customer Service and they agreed to cover half of the module replacement and labour cost. Still cost me 350 dollars. I checked the module they removed and it is evident that the containment box is not water tight which lets moisture in and causes the corrosion. There appears to be quite a few GM vehicle owners that are having this problem and I think GM should own up to the poor design and have a replacement module that is watertight.

Call GM customer service. I have a 2013 Verano with only 40000 kms on it and the side detection system has failed 3 times since I purchased it There is obviously a design problem with this system.

2013 Verano Side Collision Module Issues

Grand daughter is having issue with her Verano. Seems, according to dealer service people, both side detection modules of Collision Avoidance System are defective, along with interconnecting rear bumper harness. Supposedly, Modules are waterlogged, causing a system short, thus draining battery, your guess on harness.

Doesn't seem such a system could produce enough amp draw to pull down a fully charged battery? Her Dad put in a new battery before I got involved, same result.

Can this system be disconnected? From looking at the module images on Internet, appears one has two connectors, while other, just one. Could connector from CMM feed to two connector module be disconnected. If fuses were pulled supplying system, would car operate in a normal mode, I'm sure setting a code light.

Kid has lost her job, dealer has repair estimate at $1300.00, Trying to help her out of a jam.

Any Input, really appreciated?
